Winter is coming, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying yourself. If you’re living in or near the Big Smoke, you’re in luck – there are plenty of fantastic events happening in the capital this November. Here’s a quick roundup of the more unusual and unique events you could attend. Stave off those winter blues with a bit of fun!

1. Secret Garden Sundays, Nine Elms

Hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society, these open days are held to celebrate the cultivation of plants, in particular growing your own. Held on the first Sunday of the month, these open days are constantly changing, but you can expect artisanal food stalls, beekeepers, and florists, as well as demonstrations and everything you need to grow your own produce.

Wahaca s Day of the Dead, Wapping2. Wahaca’s Day of the Dead, Wapping

On November 7th, Wahaca are putting on a festival in celebration of the Dia de los Muertos at Tobacco Dock. With performances by The Horrors and Crystal Fighters, an art exhibition, and more Mexican food and drink than you can shake a stick at, it’s sure to be a good time.

3. Doctor Who Festival, Custom House

At the ExCeL Centre from the 13th-15th there is the Doctor Who Festival, a celebration of all things Whovian. Expect exhibits of sets and costumes, as well as appearances from Steven Moffat and the Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi.

4. Hyper Japan’s Christmas Market, Wapping

It’s a bit early for Christmas itself, taking place over the last weekend of November down on Tobacco Dock, but don’t let that stop you having a merry old time. Expect to find everything Japanese here – taiko drumming, live J-Pop performances, martial arts exhibitions, toys, teas, crockery, clothes, sake and snacks. Amazing.

5. Bonfire Night, Various Locations

Remember, remember, the 5th of November… because it will be a fantastic night. Celebrations are actually taking place all week, from Sunday 1st to Saturday 6th, meaning there’s no reason to miss out. Some of the best displays will be at Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club, Clissold Park, and of course Alexandra Palace.

6. Taste of London Winter, Wapping

This is another great event at the Tobacco Dock, from the 19th to the 22nd of November, where you can enjoy a wide range of fantastic festive foods and drinks. Loads of food stalls, plus chocolate, cheese and wine tasting, as well as live music and cooking classes… what’s not to love?

2015 marks the 800th anniversary of the Lord Mayor’s Show, so expect some serious spectacle. More than 7000 performers will take part in the main procession, and there’s also a river pageant as well as a big ol’ fireworks display. It’s sure to be good.

8. Cycle Revolution, Bermondsey

The Design Museum is, from the 18th November to the middle of 2016, home to a truly fascinating exhibition about the humble bicycle. Covering all areas, from cycling subcultures to the future of cycling, as well as featuring bicycles belonging to famous cyclists, any keen rider will love it.
