6 Reasons To Visit Holland
There is a lot more to Holland than the red light districts and coffee shops of Amsterdam. Here at Bravofly UK, we believe it is very easy to visit most of Holland’s top sights in just a few short days thanks to the country’s excellent transport system and uniquely compact size.
From the tulip fields, to the country’s rich heritage and cycling culture, here are six great reasons to visit Holland.
1. Connected Cities
All of Holland’s cities have fantastic transport systems in place, making it really easy to get around. Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is one of Europe’s four major flight hubs, operating flights to more than 300 direct destinations. The airport also has incredible public transport links, getting you to Amsterdam city centre in less than 20 minutes. Other great transport options in cities include tram, metro, bus and even ferries that will get you to wherever you need to go.
2. Compact Size
Thanks to its compact size, Holland is extremely easy to get around. No matter where you wish to visit, you will be able to get there quickly, which means you won’t lose any valuable sightseeing time travelling long distances. Thanks to Dutch people’s inherent love of cycling, you will also see few traffic jams and very little pollution in the country’s major cities!
3. Rich Culture and Heritage
Dutch cities offer a wide selection of concerts, museums, theatre shows and dance performances, as well as other types of entertainment. In Amsterdam, you can visit world class museums such as the Van Gogh Museum or the Rijksmuseum and visit historic landmarks such as the Anne Frank House. There is a great variety of cultural sites and incredible architecture in cities such as Maastricht and Rotterdam, ensuring an interesting and enjoyable stay.
4. Beautiful Canals
It has been over 400 years since construction first began on Amsterdam’s world-renowned Canal Ring, and Holland’s canals remain a focal point for visitors coming to Holland.
Amsterdam’s most famous canal was actually awarded with Unesco World Heritage status in 2010 and remains as beautiful as ever. If you don’t opt to check in to one of Amsterdam’s Canal Boats (such as the Canal House Hotel), you can explore them in the evening by boat or by cycling around the ‘Venice of the North’ as Amsterdam is fondly known.
5. Tulips Fields
Holland is known all over the world for its stunning tulip fields, which really come into colour in April and May each year. The Keukenhof area, which is very close to Amsterdam, combines fields and fields of stunning tulips with a sprinkling of traditional windmills and rural canals and waterways. Waking up to the sights and smells of Holland’s kaleidoscope of colour is one way to ensure an unforgettable stay.
6. Bikes, Bikes, Bikes
Finally, the other big thing Holland is probably most famous for also makes for a great reason to visit. Absolutely everyone cycles everywhere in Holland, which means its cities are very clean and the air quality is incredible. It’s also a very healthy way to get around, and allows you to see all the main sights with ease and at your own pace.
