The Great British Bucket List – Things to Do in the UK Before You Die

The Great British Bucket List – Things to Do in the UK Before You Die

Everyone has a bucket list, even if they don’t realise that they have one. You’ll definitely know of a few things that you’re simply desperate to do with your limited time here on Earth. Maybe you’ll want to bungee jump. Maybe you’ll want to go scuba diving off the Great Barrier Reef. Maybe you’d just like to see a play in the West End.
Loads of us dream of visiting a whole host of far-flung and exotic destinations, like Sydney, or Tokyo, or the Great Wall of China. We always forget about all the fantastic things we have on our doorstep – the UK is home to a massive variety of amazing things; you just have to open your eyes and look for them.

Here are some of the best. Make sure you see them for yourself!

The Roman Baths of Bath

When you see vestiges of the Roman Empire, such as the beautiful baths here in Bath, you have to wonder how things ever got to be as bad as they were during the medieval period. These remains are about two thousand years old, and yet they are still spectacular. See the Victorian statues and the remains of the temple to Sulis Minerva, and marvel at the fact that they had underfloor heating systems all those centuries ago.

The Great British Bucket List

Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh

Edinburgh has been voted one of the most beautiful cities in the world on numerous occasions, and it’s not difficult to see why. And if you want the ultimate view of the incredible Scottish capital, there is nothing quite like the vista from the top of Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano that overlooks the city.
It’s not the easiest of climbs (but it’s not massively difficult, either), though it is definitely well worth the effort. Take a picnic for a truly incredible lunch.

Luskentyre Beach of the Hebrides

You don’t need to trek all the way out to the Seychelles to find gorgeous, white sand beaches. Instead, get yourself up to the Hebrides – in particular, Harris – where you will find the spectacular Luskentyre Beach. White sands and clear blue waters sit alongside the more typically Scottish craggy, grassy hills, making for a uniquely beautiful sight. And even the water is warmer than you’d expect, thanks to our old pal, the Gulf Stream.

Star Spotting in Northumberland

You can keep your celebrities – we’re talking about the celestial beauties here! Northumberland International Dark Sky Park is home to the largest area of protected night sky in all of Europe, which makes it the perfect place to lose yourself beneath a quilted canopy of glittering stars.
There really isn’t anything quite like it. If you want the best possible experience, go camping in the summer; it might just be warm enough for you to enjoy sleeping directly under the stars, with the glistening night sky as your ceiling. Beautiful.
