Love water? Get yourself down to London’s Totally Thames festival, which runs throughout September. Every area that resides by the river is on-board (unintentional pun), and there is an impressive array of fun things to get involved with. You can expect culture, art, and activities. If you want to get on – or in – the water, there are plenty of fantastic opportunities to do this, including paddle boarding, cruising, wild swimming, mudlarking, and trekking along the riverside. If you’re more the sedate type that prefers to watch nature go by, there are also lots of events catered to you too, including riverside poetry readings.

No matter where you are in the country, London is a quick flight away. Let’s take a look at some of the great activities you can get involved with.

A Boat Trip Along The Thames

Do you want to appreciate the beauty of London from the water? Thames boat trips will be running throughout the week, between 10:45am and 1pm for free! This journey is dedicated to Brunel, who created three important bridges in London, so find out more about him.

Bascule Chambers Concert

An amazing venue, for the first time Tower Bridge will open its doors, and house a concert in its Bascule Chambers. There will be an interesting mix of both brass and electronic performances, to cover a number of music tastes. This will take place between September 26th and 27th, and it will set you back about £25.

Bat Spotting

Do you have a soft-spot for flying creatures? Bat spotting will be taking place throughout London’s Totally Thames festival. Equipped with bat detectors, join the experts to learn more about these amazing animals. Who needs sleep when you can go bat hunting?

Greenwich Ghost Tour

A night out in London isn’t complete until you go on a ghost tour. There are plenty of spooky stories throughout the UK’s historical capital city. Of course, this tour is catered towards more water-related ghostly tales, including that of Cutty Sark, a 19th century ship, and its curse.

Greenwich Vintage Fair

If you want to look amazing while you chill by London’s Thames river, head across to the vintage fair. It’s free to enter, and takes place between September 5th and 6th. This pop-up market will be buzzing with music from DJ Count Sizzle and other performers. You will be able to find amazing clothes and tasty grub here too!

Jump In The Thames

Not to be undertaken lightly, the Thames is a pretty dangerous place to swim, if you don’t choose your section wisely. Don’t worry, you can put on your best wetsuit and go for a swim alongside an escort ship, to ensure that you’re safe, during your wild swimming adventure. Give it a go! Just be aware that it’s a bit nippy in there! For a fiver, you can subject yourself to London’s choppy waters.
