6 Packing Hacks That Will Save You Time and Space When You Travel
We’ve all been there… packing way too much for our holidays! It’s a common occurrence that can catch even the most savvy of travellers out – especially when you’ve bought a whole new summer wardrobe and a shiny pair of sneakers, why wouldn’t you want to take them all? Then again, your baggage allowance is finite and it can be hard to find that balance between how to maximise your luggage allowance and what you can actually leave at home.
Take a look at some of the top packing tips that will help you save space, time and money before your next holiday:
1. Wear Heavy Garments on the Flight
Heading for a holiday that might require a big, fluffy coat, or some rather clunky walking boots? Then make sure to pop these on for the flight in order to save lots of space and weight. Big winter coats tend to take up lots of space, whilst a solid pair of walking boots will add an additional kilo or two to your already constrained luggage allowance.
2. Vacuum Pack Clothes
If you’re struggling with lack of space but well inside your weight allowance, then consider vacuum packing your packed clothes within your suitcase. You can purchase clothing vacuum packs from most online retailers and travel stores – these heavy duty, transparent bags will allow you to fill them up with clothes, then suck the air out with your vacuum cleaner. This will considerably save space and even allow you to compartmentalise your clothes into specific bags for each day.
3. Pack Smaller Toiletries
Most of the toiletries you will have in your bathroom will usually be a regular size – why not save space and time by purchasing some small refillable bottles and only take the amount of toiletries you need for your trip. This will give you much more space and keep unnecessary luggage weight gains to a minimum.
4. Roll Your Clothes
No one likes to arrive on a holiday, only to find all your clothes are creased and in need of a good ironing – a total holiday drag. If you want to save yourself time and effort, roll your clothes so they don’t gain any deep wrinkles that’ll eat up your precious holiday time.
5. Keep Clothes Fresh
Keeping your clothes smelling fresh is one thing that we all want when going on holiday – no one likes stale smelling clothes, especially after you’ve spent so much time washing, drying and purchasing your holiday outfits. One easy way to combat this is by placing a tumble dryer sheet within your packed clothes – this will leave your clothes smelling fresh. It’s also a great tip for shoes too, slide a sheet inside and keep those shoes smelling nice and fragrant!
6. Shower Cap Shoe Covers
Hate keeping used shoes with your clean fresh clothes? Yep, thought so… one way to easily combat this is by using the free shower caps that hotels often give you in their rooms. Slip on cap onto each shoe sole – it will allow you to keep all your other clothes nice and clean, without having to pack a clunky, big shoebox.
